While MasterCard considers the smile on their customer’s face as ‘priceless’; they would undoubtedly considering dethroning Visa Inc. in credit card market share as PRICELESS. With a strong global customer base of 24,000 member financial institutions, MasterCard is the #2 payment system in the United States, next to Visa.

MasterCard is a payment system and do not directly issue credit cards; rather it markets the brand MasterCard for credit and debit cards; and Maestro for debit cards. At the same time it establishes guidelines for use, collects fees from members and even provides the transaction authorization network.
The MasterCard edge

Another example of MasterCard’s global presence is that MasterCard is accepted at more than 25 million locations worldwide, apart from the Cirrus ATM network, which is also operated by MasterCard. MasterCard has no qualms in announcing that it has gained an edge over Visa as it gradually makes its way as the people’s choice – spreading across to an unusually widening market of common men and women.

This business strategy according to industry expects is a well thought of plan to cut across Visa Inc’s market share which depends more on catering to upper-income clientele. More so, it is slowly showing to make an impact as MasterCard is gradually inching towards a sizeable chunk of the Credit card market. As the credit card market in the United States appears to be quite saturated, MasterCard is considering wooing customers to join its camp with attractive offers.

MasterCard Path breaking Solutions

Since its inception in the early 90’s, MasterCard has been offering path breaking solutions for the credit card industry and a network of over 50,000 locations worldwide. It later went on to introduce Maestro, the worldwide debit system for cardholders. The highlight of both MasterCard and Maestro is that both are highly sophisticated online system, which data accumulation, process authorization and debiting on an individual’s bank account.

Also introduced in 1995 was the MasterCard OnLine, which besides enabling you to manage your payments and business efficiently, offered over 180 products and services. The emphasize on MasterCard OnLine is for monitoring and sharing information using sophisticated products,  real-time services, etc all using secure Internet access.

MasterCard Worldwide

MasterCard since 2006 has become MasterCard Worldwide, thus establishing its global presence. And with a host of new services being introduced and unparallel customer service, it’ll not be too long when MasterCard’s market share will indeed be ‘priceless‘.
